It is the policy of the Apopka Police Department to develop and maintain a safe, effective, and professional police bicycle program. Members will be trained, equipped and proficient in police bicycle tactics, and in the safe use and care of the police bicycles. All members assigned a bicycle shall be referred to as a Bicycle Unit.
This unit supplements the uniform patrol operations by addressing specific problems related to special details or events, which may not respond to traditional police patrol. Members assigned to the Bicycle Unit will also be assigned to the department’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and must be willing to meet the requirements set forth with the departments policy guidelines.
