City of Apopka Highlights for May 2023
Prayer Breakfast
Thank you to the Apopka Christian Ministerial Alliance for hosting a wonderful event. The Mayor was honored to receive the Pillar Award for community service excellence at the prayer breakfast.

Noon Prayer Event
In addition to the breakfast, the Apopka Christian Ministerial Alliance conducted a Noon Prayer service as well.

Cops and Bobbers
The Apopka Police Department held their annual Cops and Bobbers event where police officers teach local youths how to fish. It is a great community event and we appreciate all the officers that volunteered their time to help!

Apopka Police Department's Swearing In Ceremony
The Apopka Police Department held a swearing in ceremony for its newest officers. Welcome aboard Officers Barona, Lacen, and Agostino!

Special Olympics Torch Run
The Apopka Police Department along with several other Orange County law enforcement agencies participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida to raise awareness for this worthy cause!

Stamp Out Hunger Campaign
The National Association of Letter Carriers held its annual national food drive and collected over 12,103 pounds of food. All of the food collected in Apopka was donated to Loaves and Fishes to help local families. Thank you to all the letter carriers and residents that made this possible!

Apopka Fire Department's Underwater Rescue Training
The Apopka Fire Department held its first class in a series to train first responders for underwater rescue.

Frederick C. Brummer Remembrance
The City Council read a proclamation to remember Fred Brummer, a former State Representative and County Commissioner. Fred was a great community leader, businessman, and friend.

Emancipation Day Proclamation
The City Council commemorated Emancipation Day in Florida with a proclamation. Emancipation Day in Florida is traditionally celebrated on May 20th to recognize the emancipation of slaves, as proclaimed by General Edward M. McCook from the steps of the Knott House in Tallahassee on May 20, 1865, effectively ending slavery in the state of Florida.

Police Week
The City Council honored the Apopka Police Department with a proclamation for Police Week, May 14th through May 20th, to express gratitude for the dedicated service and courageous deeds of law enforcement officers and for the contributions they have made to the security and well-being of all City residents.

Wolf Lake Middle School
Congratulations to the Wolf Lake Middle School Girls and Boys Basketball teams for winning their respective county championships! Great job everyone!

Apopka Youth Council End of Year Recap
The Apopka Youth Council presented an end of year report to the City Council regarding their time on the Youth Council and what the experience meant to them.

Emancipation Day Celebration
An Emancipation Day Celebration was held at Alonzo Williams Park featuring face painting, arts & crafts, live music, recitals, and readings.

Memorial Day Service
Thank you to everyone that attended the Memorial Day service at Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery hosted by the VFW and the City.
Graduating Seniors
The City of Apopka would like to congratulate all the seniors graduating from Apopka High School and Wekiva High School. Congratulations Class of 2023!
